A mental health consultant is responsible for providing counselling and emotional support to manage a client's issues and control behaviours. Mental health consultants must have excellent communication and listening skills to understand and assess the client's situation and evaluate the level of their emotional and psychological distress. They also need to monitor progress on the client's state and use different psychotherapy methods and treatment plans. A mental health consultant should also reach out to other health professionals to ask assistance for any recovery options as needed.



Mental Health Consultant Responsibilities

  • Manage occupational health office consisting of RN's, LPN's and EMT's.

  • Conduct daily ARMHS groups/individuals activities and relate tasks (i.e., charting) both on site and in the community.
  • Complete necessary documentation in accordance with DHS.
  • Generate and input reports into OSHA computerize data system.
  • Identify veterans at risk for suicidal/homicidal and mental health crisis.
  • Encourage liberal family involvement including but not limit to in-home family therapy.
  • Establish relationships with national and regional healthcare leaders and integrate health systems to ensure access to clinical and scientific information.
  • Conduct daily communication with both internal and external users to troubleshoot application issues and answer training questions.
  • Shadow, videotaped, and provide direct feedback to residents regarding communication styles and the doctor-patient relationship.
  • Follow corporate guidelines for HIPAA and education.
  • Provide assistance on crisis calls, including direct access to emergency services and appropriate treatment facilities when indicate.
  • Provide and coordinate a wide range of rehabilitation counseling and case management services to disable veterans and other eligible individuals.
  • Record employee safety through incident/accident reports and post OSHA require information in public areas.
  • Coordinate IEP meetings to address IEP revisions due to increase needs, goal completion, and results from reevaluations and assessments.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in strict compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist ADL, eating, bathing, ambulating and eliminating.
  • Provide assistance with (ADL) activities of daily living management and supervision.
  • Implement, and evaluate chronic conditions programs that target diabetes, stroke, and hypertension.
